The Word of God is alive and active. The Word is not just made up of capital letters, alphabets. The Word is a somebody, not a something. The Word is Jesus.
Pope Benedict XVI (Sept 3 2008, Vatican City) stated: “Christianity is not a new philosophy or new morality. We are Christians only if we encounter Christ… Only in this personal relationship with Christ, only in this encounter with the Risen One do we really become Christians… Therefore, let us pray to the Lord to enlighten us, so that, in our world, he will grant us the encounter with his presence, and thus give us a lively faith, an open heart, and great charity for all, capable of renewing the world.”
The key word here is ENCOUNTER. In the Christian context, when we use this word Encounter, it is not a ‘hi and bye’ meeting, but it refers to have a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST. Encounter is about developing a close intimate friendship with Jesus, the One who knows and loves us the most.
Everyday, Jesus is here to encounter us. He stands at our door, knocking.
Rev 3, 20: ‘ Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into his house and eat with him and he will eat with me.’
Jesus wants to enter to be THE WORD that is Alive. He wants to be our companion in our life, A Friend who journeys with us.
What will our answer be?
